“Clay is the skeleton of mountains and rivers; fire is the alchemy of time.”
Yixing, historically known as Yangxian, has long been celebrated worldwide for its pottery and exquisite Zisha ware. On this land where gentle grace meets steadfast spirit, Chunshan Zaiwang proudly invites several contemporary young ceramic artists and distinguished inheritors of intangible cultural heritage to present the special exhibition “Poetry of Clay and Fire,” featuring both contemporary Zisha masterpieces and esteemed tea gatherings, held at the hotel’s art space, “Chunshan Ji.”
This special exhibition showcases more than twenty thoughtfully selected Zisha pieces that blend traditional scholarly elegance with modern design language, bringing these exquisite works back into everyday life and inviting you to explore the Eastern aesthetic of wabi-sabi through tea and shifting light.
✦ Exhibition Highlights
One: Traditional Clays and Contemporary Creations
The exhibition features rare clays such as Huanglongshan raw ore Dicaoqing, Zhuni, and Benshan Lüni, presenting both the classic literary elegance of the traditional “Man Sheng Eighteen Styles” and the innovative forms reimagined by contemporary young ceramic artists through modern architectural geometry and minimalist lines. The warm, jade-like body and simple, unadorned textures quietly convey the artisans’ profound respect for the earth’s nurturing warmth.
Two: The Silent Dialogue Between Light, Shadow, and Objects
Designed by Teacher Xie Ke, the exhibition space allows natural daylight to filter through gridded panels, spilling softly onto the rough brickwork and white walls. As the sun rises and sets, the twenty-plus exhibited pieces reveal the crisp clarity of dawn and the tranquil stillness of dusk, creating an immersive viewing experience that feels like breathing itself.
Three: Conversations Over Tea – Themed Gatherings with Renowned Masters
During the exhibition, Chunshan Zaiwang will collaborate with participating masters to host several specially curated tea ceremonies in the “Xianting Tea Room.” Savoring seasonal Yangxian pre-Qingming fresh tea brewed in handcrafted Zisha teapots, guests can appreciate the perfect harmony between the clay’s breathability and the tea’s rich depth, while sitting around the hearth with the creators to share stories of beauty found in objects and daily life.
